The Terrestrial Communications ITR is the initial procurement process to source a suitable provider to provision the core of a broader program of work to upgrade both the DTCN and other elements of the Defence ICT infrastructure to ensure leading edge ICT support continues to be provided in support of war fighter and corporate objectives.
Defence needs to update and upgrade the existing Terrestrial Communications network by building an integrated, high-capacity, highly reliable network which enables Defence to improve the conduct of operations and the management of its business.
In support of Terrestrial Communications requirements the Defence initiated Joint Project (JP) 2047, Phase 3 has been incorporated in the Terrestrial Communications bundle and is expected to:
- improve the fixed network; and
- enable improved integration of the fixed network with satellite and tactical networks, providing an integrated end-to-end internet protocol (IP) based network service to all Defence users.
