RFT - Dept of Health and Ageing (AUS) - Observation and Response Charts: Usability Testing and Piloting
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Heath Care will undertake usability testing and piloting of four Observation and Response Charts (ORC) in a range of clinical settings commencing August 2010.
The Commission is extending its work on ORCs, which are to be used for recording patient observations and specifying actions to be taken in response to deterioration in the clinical state of the patient. The four ORCs in this initiative have been developed to incorporate different types of track and trigger systems, formal processes for tracking changes in vital signs and triggering a response when deterioration is identified.
For the usability testing phase, the ORC will be used in parallel with existing hospital observation charts. For each site participating in this study, the ORC used will be chosen to match the track and trigger system already in place. The ORC will also be customised according to the thresholds and actions required when deterioration was identified. This usability testing will be conducted in a small number of sites.
The piloting phase will include customising the ORC for each site and roll out across the whole hospital. This process will be conducted in a larger number of sites.
Work will be conducted from contractor’s office with additional travel required to participating testing and piloting sites.

RFT - Dept of Health and Ageing (AUS) - Extending and Enhancing Web Based Reporting
The Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services (OATSIH) Collection and Reporting system, known as OSCAR, is a web-based tool currently used by about 100 primary health care services in urban, rural and remote part of Australia to report data collected as part of the Healthy for Life Program.
Over the next three years a system that enhances and extends OSCAR will be implemented in up to 500 services. The system will be developed so that it replaces other web- and paper-based reporting processes currently used by OATSIH and collects data from the broad range of organisations it funds. It will also enable the collection of national Key Performance Indicator data from the State and Territory government funded Indigenous-specific health services that OATSIH does not fund. In this way it will contribute to the evaluation of the Council of Australian Government Policy and Reform Directions and the National Indigenous Reform Agreement.
Tenders are requested for the three year project to fully develop, build and implement the IT needed for web-based reporting. The successful tenderer will be offered a one year contract, with extensions for the remainder of the project period dependant on the rate and quality of progress.Monday, July 13, 2009
